The Church’s One
Foundation . . .
has been a favorite of mine since childhood. It’s got a great melody and powerful lyrics, especially the last verse. I remember singing it at the synod assembly when we voted on the Lutheran Episcopal concordat. Both Pr. Eric and I planned to vote no but verse 3 changed my mind – though with scornful wonder this world sees her oppressed by schisms rent asunder… I decided at that moment that unity was better than division and voted yes.
